I found many similarities between early Christian art and American folk art. I became interested in the strangeness and flatness of early American painting.

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has a great collection of folk art. I became a regular in those galleries. I found so much humor and tenderness in this work.

I made the eggshell pieces and folk art at the same time. I also painted some stillifes because of this interest in rendering tiny things.
