B_Rubens

Cubistic Chapeau de Paille by Rubens
Acrylic collage. 48" x 36"

About a year after I returned from Europe I started doing large drawings and renderings of my favorite pieces. I felt liberated to have big white rolls of paper to work on instead of teenie sketchbook pads. As a result I started getting looser and looser. I started slapping collage elements and various forms of tape and folded paper onto the drawings.

These pieces were a breakthrough for me. With this newfound technology I was free to merge art history, 20th century art and all the muck in my head that serves as content. Cubism for Girls was born.
